  • Lake Havasu City, the crown jewel of Arizona's West Coast.
Lake Havasu City, the crown jewel of Arizona's West Coast. With the need for more water, Lake Havasu come into being in 1938 when Parker Dam was constructed on the Colorado River. Lake Havasu is forty-five miles of scenic shoreline, making it the perfect place for every time of water recreation imaginable. The most beautiful scenery in Arizona can be found here. The mountains across the lake in California make for a beautiful backdrop. Nowhere will you find more spectacular sunsets that in our fair city.

Lake Havasu City is a relatively young city. In 1963 Robert McCulloch Sr. decided to start a retirement community in this lovely desert oasis. What better combination could you want than over 300 days of sunshine and a water of wonderland? McCulloch used is formidable skills in marketing and the growth was on. In 1968, when McCulloch heard the world famous London Bridge was up for auction, he decided it would be a terrific draw to his desert community. He had the winning bid and transported it across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal into Arizona and rebuilt it brick by brick on Lake Havasu. The Grand Canyon and the bridge are great tourist attractions for the Arizona. Incorporation as a city came in 1971.

Lake Havasu has something to offer for everyone. It has a first class public school system, wonderful private schools and preschools, colleges and trade schools. Recreational facilities, beaches, parks, golf courses, and over 100 restaurants provide entertainment for the very diverse population. Shopping will become even more accessible once the 'Shops at Lake Havasu' are completed in approximately March of 2008. There is a variety of homes available for purchase, depending on you needs and wants. Everyone from young families to retirees will be happy in Lake Havasu. Welcome to our lovely city and please enjoy yourself.
  • London Bridge History
The stone London Bridge was begun around the year 1176, and completed in the early years of the 13th century. The first 'London Bridge was Roman, and probably build of timber. However, the earliest written reference to a London Bridge can be found in the section in the Saxon Chronicles that deals with the later tenth century.

The wooden Roman and Saxon London Bridges were vulnerable to fire and flood, so Peter de Colechurch determined to build a lasting bridge of stone. During the 30 years that it took to build, the bridge cost the lives of an estimated 150 workmen.

As historical drawings show, its with building frequently being demolished and replaced. Throughout its history, the bridge has been a busy thoroughfare, and was once lined with shops.

In 1966, the houses on London Bridge were saved from the Great Fire of London, thanks to an earlier fire in 1933 - which had destroyed the houses near to the north bank, so there was nothing for the fire to get a hold of. In the mid 1700's, the houses on the bridge were removed completely, and a large middle arch was created, by removing one of the piers (or starlings).

In the 1820s a new London Bridge was build, north of the old one, and this opened in 1831. In that same year, the destruction of the old bridge began in the earnest, after it had been in place some 622 years. In the 1960s, the London Bridge of 1831 was transported, stone by stone, to Lake Havasu, Arizona.
